I am 15 years old and I live in Bellevue, Nebraska. I am going to be a junior in high school this year. I love art, nature, and sports. Even though I am young, I work just as hard as any adult when running my business. When I was little, I was always very interested in starting and owning a business. How Did You Get Your First Several Customers Or Users? How Many Users Or Customers Do You Have Now?
My first customers were my family and friends. After I began advertising my business, I started to get more customers and sales from all around the world! Now, I have 109 sales less than one month after I opened. I have sold my products in over ten states, and four countries.
How Does Your Company Grow And Acquire New Customers?
My company grows and acquires new customers because of advertising. I created a TikTok account to advertise my designs, and it has been a massive success. I also use Pinterest to promote my products. I focus on reaching out to new or potential customers. I want as many people as possible to know about my business.
What Actionable Tips And Tricks Do You Have For New Founders Who Are Looking To Get Their First Thousand Users Or Dollars?
My best tip for new founders is to advertise consistently. No one will know about your business until you tell them about it, or show them. Connect with your audience by being authentic and creative. Figure out your target audience and find ways to connect with them. For example, my best selling product is stickers. Cute stickers are currently very popular among teenagers. Because the majority of people who follow my TikTok account are teenagers, I focus on showcasing my sticker designs. You have to know your audience and connect with your customers. When you advertise consistently, you will see consumer interaction and you will get more sales!
What Is Something You’ve Learned That Would Not Be Obvious To Somebody Who Hasn’t Worked In Your Space Before?
Don’t compare your company’s beginning to someone else’s middle. When I started my business, I saw all of these other small businesses with hundreds of sales per day. I realized that it is okay to not have thousands of sales when first starting. You have to work hard and advertise your business consistently to get a steady stream of sales. If you aren’t focused on your own goals, it is easy to start comparing yourself to others. Don’t do that. Put all of your energy towards growing your business, and success will come.
What’s The Craziest Thing That’s Happened To You (Good Or Bad) On Your Founder Journey?
The craziest thing that has happened to me on my founder journey, was the day that I received my biggest order yet. Someone ordered twenty of my stickers in one purchase. I jumped up and down and ran around my room. It was the best feeling ever! Every single time I get a sale, I get so excited. It feel so good, especially after the long hours of creating new designs and promoting them.
What Are Your Favorite Books?
My favorite non-fiction book is Shoe Dog by Phil Knight. Shoe Dog is a great read for anyone interested in starting a business. It was written by Phil Knight, the founder of Nike. It is inspiring and it illustrates the ups and downs of creating a successful company. My favorite fiction book is Uprising by Margaret Peterson Haddix. It is about three young girls fighting for women’s rights in New York during the early 1900s. The bravery of the girls who stood up to the factory owners during the union strikes is incredible.
