Jonathan Franzen is an American novelist and essayist. He is best known for his 2001 novel The Corrections, which was awarded the National Book Award for fiction. Franzen has written three other novels, The Twenty-Seventh City, Strong Motion, and Freedom, as well as two collections of essays, How to Be Alone and Farther Away. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
